Daimler Trucks is beating arch rival Tesla as the first manufacturer to supply customer with electric trucks.
Freightliner delivered two Class 8 battery electric trucks to Penske Leasing. The trucks will be a part of a small fleet, Freightliner’s Electric Innovation Fleet to test the drivelines in practice.
Daimler has always claimed it would be Tesla as the first manufacturer to deliver electric trucks to customers. More similar trucks will follow later this year. There are two types of electric trucks developed by Freightliner: the eCascadia and the eM2.
Eventually, the Innovation Fleet of Freightliner should consist of some 30 electric trucks. The project was funded wth 16 million dollars by the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
