China tests autonomous trucks

Chinese company Suning Logistics has completed testdrives with an autonomous truck nicknamed 'Strolling Dragon'. Suning intends to offer customers fully automated logistics soluitions, according to Chinese sources.

Th testtruck belongs to the heaviest class and operates without human input within pre-programmed parameters. According to sources, the Chinese truck operates on SAE-level 4 autonomous driving. This is a stage where the truck mostly operates completely by itself. The truck is equipped with Artificial Intelligence and with deep-learning technologies. The truck features laser radar and is able to make emergency stops.

It is Sunings intention to mnaintain their drivers, there some 100.000 at present, rather than to replace drivers and to reduce thr risk of accidents.

Sunings intends to automate logistics operations in order to be more accurate en faster to deliver goods to consumers.
